A snug retreat that well exceeds its two-star rating! Rooms are comfortably furnished, minimalist in style, clean, quiet, with air-conditioning. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak good English. Conveniently close to the beach and shops. No restaurant in the hotel, but top restaurants and eateries are just a short stroll away. Sporty-types will love the opportunities for golf, horse riding, aerobics, as well as swimming and surfing à la plage. You can even hire a bicycle or moped to get around town. Fantastic value for money.

Fantastic location: just a 10-minute walk from the city centre, and 15 minutes from the beach. Nothing exuberant from the outside, but inside it’s a different story: the whole place is loaded with funky, not jaded, 70’s décor, while rooms are spacious and comfy. Staff are genial, multi-lingual and obliging. A decent breakfast is provided of croissants, breads, juice and coffee. Free parking outside if you’re planning to drive. Overall, affordably relaxing – great comfort and service at a very reasonable price.

This family-run hotel is small, ‘no-frills’. Superbly located in the heart of the city: history-lovers must visit the nearby D-Day museum in Arramanches. Just a stone’s throw from the shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and beaches – paradise for surfers, with a surfing shop nearby. Fantastic service and attention to detail. Breakfast in bed too is a real treat, with fantastic coffee. A fabulous choice for couples or families.

Amazing location: nestling in a pretty, peaceful area by the beach, and just half-an-hour’s drive to the Spanish border. The surrounding calm is matched by the serene aura of this hotel – outside there’s a lovely traditional feel with terracotta walls and neat balconies, while inside rooms are adorned with gentle pastel colours, while furnishings are simple and homely. Run by a charming couple, Annie and Serge, and service is impeccable. Just 19 rooms which are recently refurnished, each with a different design. The hotel breakfast, with pastries, juice and coffee in the elegant dining room comes recommended, served for just €6 (not included in the overall price). Just a short walk from the centre-ville bustling with cafés, restaurants and shops. Great for a group getaway, or a break with friends. Free Wi-Fi too.

All-round thumbs-up for this fantastic boutique guesthouse. A fine interior throughout studded with beautiful furniture – you can tell this place has been arranged by an arty eye. The centre of town is just a walk away. Wonderful, friendly service - owners Annie and Mark go to every length to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Ideal for an amorous break, or for those who just want to chill, hidden away in Biarritz.
